Artist Info

Doug Morgan came to the art world from a computer software background, and since starting in 2004 has become one of Western Canada's premier landscape and cityscape photographers.

Doug's interest in photography began as a hobby at a young age, encouraged and mentored by his grandfather, a long time photographer. The purchase of his first digital camera turned that hobby into an passion and ultimately into a profession. The combination of 20 years of computer experience with the endless possibilities of digital photography has allowed Doug to develop the techniques to create large, stunning images.

Born and raised in the Midwest USA, Doug moved to Canada in the mid 1980's and has since become a citizen. Over the years he has lived in Alberta, Northern BC, the Yukon Territory, and now resides with his family in the Okanagan Valley, BC. Doug continues to travel extensively and is on a constant quest in search of the next perfect vista.

Artist Statement

To create a panorama, I combine multiple images into a single ultra-high resolution image. Using a special tripod mount, I take a series of overlapping digital photographs, often with each frame repeated at different settings to achieve optimal lighting. The result can run to a hundred digital files or more. These images are taken with a digital SLR from Canon using a variety of lenses including optics from Leica and Zeiss. Back at the studio, my computer work involves a high-end workstation more like that used by the film digital effects people than a normal photography studio. As many as six different programs are used to produce my high resolution images. From initial idea to finished and signed photograph, each unique image can take weeks to complete with every detail overseen by my hand.
